Ysidro C. Ruiz was born on March 26, 1924 in Safford, Arizona and entered eternal life on July 25, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Ysidro and his family moved to Mammoth, Arizona in 1955, to build homes for Lamar Cotten Construction.  While building homes he also worked part time for the Town of Mammoth as a handyman and eventually became the Director of Public Works, keeping that position for 34 years. He served in the U.S. Army as Staff Sargeant, serving in World War II with a tour in Europe in the 53rd Armored Battalion. During his military service he was part of the Normandy Beach invasion against the Nazis and was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star medal.

Ysidro was an active member of the San Pedro Valley Lions Club for many years, receiving the 50 Year Monarch Milestone Chevron Award and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.  He was a valuable asset to the Lions Club and the Town of Mammoth, always willing and able to provide his services. He loved living in Mammoth and had only one hobby--providing his services, whether it be to build, fix or teach his crafts.

Ysidro is preceded in death by his wife, Trini; son Rudy, and grandson, Christopher.  He is survived by his daughters, Grace Abruzzo (Tony); and Becky Ruiz (Michele); Grandchildren Ronnie Ruiz, Gracie Abruzzo, Teresa Heger (Christian); Great Grandchildren Davina Carbajal, Gabby and Marissa Ruiz; Fred, Marcello "Marco", & Ysidro "Sid" Heger.

Services will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Tucson.  The rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by the mass at 11:00 a.m..  The burial of ashes will be held in Mammoth at a later date.

The Ruiz family would like to thank all the care giving services our dad received after he suffered a stroke in 2021:  Mom & Dad's Place, the Veterans Administration Home Based Primary Care Program and our personal caregivers.
