She was born in Bisbee to Maria Jesus and Manuel Casarez Ruiz on October 20, 1919. Around age six, she was orphaned and came to live in Tucson at a women's orphanage, The Platt, where she received training in housekeeping and citizenship. She graduated from Mansfeld Jr. High from the 9th grade. At age 16, Virginia married Alfred Soto Camacho, who was a well-known Tucson butcher and meat buyer. During the early 60's, she worked at Jacome's Department Store in the sewing department. Alfred Camacho died in 2000 after having been married for 64 beautiful years. Virginia was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Leopoldo R. Camacho and brother, Ramon Ruiz. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Virginia Benton; sister, Mary Santa Cruz and four grandsons, Rene Alfred Camacho, Steve Benton (Kathleen), Santiago X. Benton (Rosa Maria) and Damian Benton; six great-grandchildren, Daniel Benton, Armando Benton, Eugene X. Benton, Aleyda Benton, Jennifer Carlson and Michelle Carlson; nephews, Ernest Santa Cruz Jr. and Tom Santa Cruz and niece, Maryanne Moore. Mrs. Camacho's family wishes to thank Esperanza Sanchez, Melissa and other staff at House of Hope for their loving care. The family also is grateful for the care and attention Mrs. Camacho received from the Soulistic Hospice team, especially Shureen Lewis.
