Valdemar Gilbert Velasco's Obituary

My father was born in Phoenix Arizona and was the oldest of many brothers and sisters.  He loved playing softball, his team was called Save the Sheep. However, his favorite was handball.  He played at many clubs all over Arizona: Arizona Athletic Club, Tuc son Racquet Club, Cochise Racquet Club and Flagstaff Athletic Club for his summer competitions.

I remember the summer trips to Flagstaff Athletic Club in the late 80s and early 90s.  My mom and I would bang on the walls of the court when my dad scored. When my dad was done playing he would tell me to go to another court to cheer on one of his friends till he got there so we can all cheer our friend on.

What my dad loved most was being around people, helping them to better themselves physically, emotion ally, and politically.  Always smiling and laughing.

Those who knew him said that he was one hell of a handball player. Yeah my dad was a big guy, 6'4", 300 pounds that seemed to have a 10 foot wingspan with a wicked backhand.

I pray that Jesus was there with open arms to welcome you home along with family and friends. When you see me Dad, I hope that you will have open arms also.

Please leave a comment for me to read about my dad or you can email me directly at avelasco1969@gmail.com .
