Terrence (Terry) James McCarthy Sr., February 22, 1929 to July 30, 2020.

It is In joy and sadness that we announce the entry into eternal life of Terrence McCarthy. Dying in his home, the home of his daughter Brigid (Brian) Kram, surrounded by family.

Celebrating his life are his children Terry Jr, Kevin, Rory, Bob, Cronan, Sean, Chris, Brigid, Hilary, Camille, and their spouses, along with his 42 grandchildren, and their spouses, and 22 great grandchildren, (living in 11 states and 3 countries) celebrate his new life in Christ. Greeting him in eternal life are his wife of 70 years Thecla, their infant children Joseph, Mary, and their grandchildren David and Mary.

Terry was born to Robert F. and Minnie (Depender) McCarthy in Grand Haven, MI. He was preceded in death by Thecla, his wife of 70 years, his infant son Joseph, his infant daughter Mary his young grandson David and young granddaughter Mary McCarthy, his brother Robert, and his sister Ginny Hutchings. He is survived by his sister Dolores and his brother Eugene.

Terry enjoyed being a co creator with God in all he did, marrying Thecla Elizabeth McCarthy (Holtmeyer) on June 14, 1950 at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Petoskey, Michigan, he was a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a Secular Franciscan for more than 62 years and a Life time member of the NRA. He grew up in Michigan and left home to travel the world beginning by working steamships on the Great Lakes and traveling to Alaska to work steam locomotives.

Meeting and marrying Thecla, marriage became his top priority. Following Terry and Thecla's calling to be third order (secular) Franciscans, they sensed an urge to follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit to travel to foreign lands to work with the local people and help them develop their person and land.

He brought his skills with him to be a Heavy equipment operator and mechanic instructor, for ITAF (USAID) based in Nicoya, Costa Rica from 1965 to 1967, Texas A&M extension service from
1967 to 1969, later for Alcoa in Suriname aluminum ore mines 1969 to 1973, and as a private consultant throughout the world for several years following.

He was a Commercial pilot, flying Cessna 182 and 172 throughout the United States, Central America, and Northern South America and the Caribbean.

He is the Author of three books; A Theology of the Corporation, A Franciscan Approach; Journey into Another World, A Sojourn in Suriname; and From Student to Commercial Pilot.
