IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sylvia M.
Lopez
September 11, 1956 – January 29, 2026
Surrounded by loved ones Sylvia Montiel Lopez 69, went to be with our Heavenly Father on January 29, 2026. She was born on September 11, 1956 and was a woman whose presence could fill any room and whose laughter you could recognize instantly, bright, genuine, and contagious.
A true free spirit, Sylvia could strike up a conversation with anyone she met. She had a rare gift for making people feel seen and welcomed, and she lived by the belief that where there was a will, there was always a way. Her strength and determination were as memorable as her warmth.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her beloved children, Caesar and Celina Leon, losses she carried with deep love and resilience. Parents, Juan and Jessie Montiel, sister, Frances Montiel, son-in-law James Braun, brother-in-law, Jesus Encinas and nephew Chichito Morales.
She is survived by her cherished grandchildren, Jesus Leon and Jasmine Leon (Mike Garcia), and her adored great-granddaughters, Reina Leon-Garica, lovingly called her "Mi Muñeca" and Maelis Leon-Garcia who we know, she has already held in Heaven. Reina was the light of her life, and Sylvia's face would glow whenever she spoke of her.
Also survived by sisters, Cecila (Inez) Salinas, Amelia Jacobo Encinas, Pat Montiel, brother Juan Montiel, and son-in-law Ray Ray Camacho, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Music brought Sylvia joy, especially Oldies and Tejanos, which she loved to sing along to and jam out to whenever she could. She found peace and happiness outdoors, gardening and decorating her front yard, creating a space that reflected her vibrant spirit. Known simply as "Grandma," she extended that love not only to her own grandchildren but to all of their friends, embracing them as family.
Sylvia loved her family fiercely, especially her sisters, and held her loved ones close to her heart. Though cancer took her far too soon, her light continues to shine in the lives of all who knew her. Her kindness, laughter, and unshakable spirit will be remembered always.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
