Obituary

Socorro Tellez Pena Known lovingly as "Connie" by family and friends, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 23, 2025, in the cherished home she had lived in for seventy years. Her children surrounded her, providing comfort in her final moments.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Ricardo and Clara Tellez; her devoted husband, Armando A. Pena; her brothers, Ricardo Jr. and Andres; her sister, Beatrice; and her daughter-in-law, Sandra. She is survived by her beloved sister, Carmela; her sons, Armando Jr., Steven (Sandra), Benjamin (Cindy), Daniel (Norma), Christopher (Ann); her daughter, Victoria (Armando); fourteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom will dearly miss her wisdom, love, and warmth.

As a proud member of the Tellez pioneer family, Connie's heritage was deeply rooted in the Tucson area, where her family's legacy spans over two centuries. She was a direct descendant of Jose Gausino Tellez, a soldier in the Spanish military who served at the San Augustine Presidio in 1797. Connie carried this legacy forward with grace, pride, and an enduring connection to her family's history.

Connie embodied the quintessential homemaker of the 1950s and 60s, managing her household with boundless skill, creativity, and love. As the beloved barrio seamstress, her exceptional talents in sewing, crocheting, embroidery, and quilting left an indelible mark on her community. Her passion for quilt-making was a labor of love, crafting treasured keepsakes for her children and grandchildren, each piece sewn with care and devotion.

A woman of steadfast values, Connie lived a life defined by her unwavering commitment to family. Her legacy of putting loved ones first and instilling these timeless values in her kin will forever be remembered and celebrated.
