IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Salvador "Chavo"
Andrade
May 11, 1939 – June 9, 2023
With great sadness the family of Salvador announces his passing June 9, 2023 surrounded by his wife and family. Preceded in death by his daughter Marizza Cecilia, his parents Enrique and Victoria Andrade, siblings Henry, Concha, Manuel, Eleanor, Socorro, Rosa and Elma. Survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ana, and children Sal, Lisa (Mark) Grijalva, Joyce (George) Alcantar, grandchildren Sal "Tony", Carissa (Alejandro) Moreno, Sarina Grijalva, Gia Alcantar, John and Gabrielle Garcia, great grandchild Lil' Sal Andrade, and many nieces and nephews.
Born May 11, 1939, Sal was a proud native Tucsonan from Barrio Sin Nombre, a U.S. Navy Veteran and Navy Reserve. Employed by Cox Produce, Burr Brown, TUSD as a baker, and the State as a Probation Officer Aide which led him to his true calling as a Master Social Worker for
La Frontera and TUSD for many years. Sal obtained UA (BS) and ASU (MSW) degrees and loved working and advocating for all children to reach their full potential, especially his students at Richey and Ochoa Schools. He was a member of Club Cuauhtemoc and coached Little League baseball and softball. Sal was kind, compassionate, caring, humble through his many accomplishments, loved to joke and had a great sense of humor. He connected with everyone he met and always had the best stories to share. Sal had a way of making you feel so special, always accepted you, never judged, and truly believed in you. Being one of eight siblings, Sal had many nieces and nephews that he loved and cared for, and they absolutely cherished their uncle Chavo.
His grandchildren especially loved to spend time with "Papa Chavo" whether it was learning about the Tucson Barrios, sharing sweet treats, or listening to his Tejano and Mariachi music in the backyard while they played. Papa Chavo showed the same beautiful love and care to all their friends and any child he came across. He left you a feeling of inspiration and encouragement knowing he was always rooting for you.
He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends!
Happy Father's Day Papa Chavo/Dad! We love you!
