Robert Michael “Bob” Hickman
Passed away on August 12, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on September 26, 1947, in Douglas, Arizona, Bob lived a life filled defined by hard work, meaningful relationships, and a genuine love for people.
Bob was born in Douglas, AZ to Robert Elonso Hickman and Mary Hunt Hickman. Raised between Douglas and Ajo, Arizona, Bob grew up in a proud mining family. His father was a World War II Navy veteran and brick mason, while his mother was a registered nurse whose determination and work ethic left a lasting impression on those around her.
An avid sportsman from a young age, Bob enjoyed baseball, football, basketball, and golf, and developed the outgoing personality and competitive spirit that would define him throughout his life.
A proud University of Arizona Wildcat, Bob earned a degree in chemistry and began his career as an assayer for Phelps Dodge, analyzing ore and metals before he later transitioned into chemical sales with the Ashland Group, where his natural ability to connect with people led to a successful career in leadership, eventually serving as a Regional Sales Manager. His work took him across the country and around the world, creating lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories. Of all the places he visited, San Francisco held a special place in his heart.
Bob never met a stranger. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel comfortable valued, and welcome. He was gregarious, quick-witted, and could strike up a conversation with anyone and leave them feeling like an old friend. He was known for his huge heart, unwavering loyalty and deep love for those he truly cared for. While he could be stubborn at times, it was matched only by his generosity and devotion to those he cared for. Whether you knew him for fifty years or five minutes, Bob had a way of making you feel like a friend. He loved deeply, cared genuinely, and built meaningful relationships wherever he went.
He is survived by his children, Robert Hickman and Shannon (Jay); his grandchildren, Roy (Melissa), Brianna (Dominic), Sigi, Granada, Selma, Ari, Remington, Soyr, and Athen; and his great-grandchildren, Eryk, Adryan, Roy, Mariyah, Giana, Naomi, Anthony, Ariyah, and Luca.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Elonso Hickman and Mary Hunt Hickman, his daughter-in-law, Nina Hickman, and his grandson, Robert Michael “LB” Hickman.
Bob’s greatest legacy is the impact he had on others, he had a unique ability to build lasting connections and make people feel important. The countless friendships he formed throughout his life are a testament to the kind of man he was. A beloved Grandfather, father, cousin and friend to many, Bob will be missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
