Ricardo Morelos
Serrano
March 1, 1942 – April 18, 2026
Ricardo Morelos Serrano, 84, beloved husband, father and uncle, journeyed to Our Lord on April 18, 2026. After enduring a year-long illness, Ricardo died peacefully among family and friends and in communion with the Catholic Church. Born in Lordsburg, New Mexico on March 1, 1942, he was preceded in death by his mother, Rosa Morelos Gutierrez; his stepfather, Alfredo Gutierrez; grandparents, Jesus and Rosaura Morelos; his brother, Federico Diaz; as well as beloved aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rosa Maria Serrano; daughters, Laura Serrano (husband Ray Florez), and Lucinda Serrano; in addition to many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A proud graduate of Pueblo High School and the University of Arizona, Ricardo will always be remembered for his exceptional work ethic, profound devotion to the Church, as well as his unwavering commitment to community service. One of his greatest joys in life was to mentor young people in their professional careers.
At the age of eighteen, Ricardo joined the Air National Guard as a jet mechanic, retiring after 25 years of service. In 1977, he began his career with IBM in Phoenix, serving in various capacities over a span of 26 years throughout Arizona and California, ultimately retiring as Internal Audit Area Manager for Latin America. After his tenure at IBM, Ricardo was hired by The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson as its Human Resources Director, a position which he intended to hold for “just a few years,” but which inevitably led to another twenty plus year career. After retiring from the Diocese, Ricardo returned immediately as a Human Resources Consultant and later as the Employee Relations Manager, a part-time position he held until very recently. Ricardo was also a devoted and long-standing member of the South Tucson Lions Club, as well as the Santa Cruz Church Knights of Columbus.
Our father, Ricardo, was not only a man of great integrity, but also a devoted husband and dad who led by example with patience, grace, and humility. He was a steady presence in all our lives, greatly admired and respected for the good man that he was. He will be deeply missed by us all.
We thank all family and friends who loved our father throughout his lifetime and supported him during his final days. A special thank you to Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas and Bishop James A. Misko, as well as the priests and personnel of The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please consider a donation to the Santa Cruz Church Maintenance Fund.
