Reginald L.
Call
April 23, 1926 – October 26, 2017
Reginald Lessey Call
Born: April 23, 1926 in Rigby, Idaho
Passed away: October 26, 2017 at home surrounded by his family in Tucson, Arizona
Reg was the beloved son of Lessey Homer Call and Leah Hogge Call.
After graduating High School, Reg served in the United States Navy for two years as a radioman. Thankfully the war ended soon after, and he was discharged. The Navy provided Reg with training in electronics, which spurred on a strong desire to pursue a degree in Physics at the University of Montana.
Being a devote Mormon, Reg was called to serve his two year Mission in the U.S. Western states.
When he returned from his mission, Reg went on to pursue his Masters Degree in Physics at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and then it was on to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City where he received his Ph.D. in Physics.
During these years, he met and married his beautiful wife, Ruby Shippen, on December 27, 1950 in the LDS Temple in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Reg and Ruby were married for 66 wonderful years. He said he was lucky to have found someone who could tolerate him! Reg and Ruby complemented each other in every way, and it was this strong commitment and unconditional love that is the bedrock of the Call family.
After graduating, Reg was employed by Bell Telephone Laboratories in Holmdel, New Jersey, and the start of a family soon followed.
Not preferring the bitter cold of New Jersey, and tired of shoveling snow, he decided to move his family out west to Tucson, Arizona in 1968. Reg accepted a teaching position in the Electrical Engineering Department at University of Arizona. He worked at the U of A as a Professor for 25 years before finally retiring as the Assistant Dean of Engineering in 1991 .
During his 49 years in Arizona, Reg served as the Bishop and Patriarch of the Church. After his children grew and moved out, he and his wife served a church mission together.
Reg is survived by his loving wife, Ruby Call, his children - Dirk Call, Verna (Warren) Lyons, Blair Call, Michelle Smith, and Ryan (Tassi) Call- 21 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. He left an enormous legacy behind to carry on his name, his love and especially his wonderful sense of humor.
