Natalia Esquer Leon "Nina Nats," age 91, passed away Monday November 21, 2022. Preceded in death by husband of 67 years Antonio M. Leon; son, Antonio "Tony-Boy" Leon; sister, Angelina. She was born on October 9, 1931 in Tucson, Arizona. She was the first born to Gregorio and Benita Esquer. Natalia was raised in an enriched and loving environment. Natalia's memories included influences of her grandfather's ranch in Grant County in Silver City, New Mexico where there were many acres for family to enjoy and watching the "Vaqueros" work the ranch and being raised in Tucson's Downtown District. She attended Davis Elementary, Safford Junior High, and Tucson High School. Following high school, she married Antonio Martinez Leon, and they began their family in Tucson, raising three children: Marisa, Antonio Michael, and Sandra Lorraine.
Natalia's decades of self employment involved managing her rental properties. She retired after 65 years. In the 1980's and 1990's she was the primary childcare provider to her two grandchildren; Daniel Michael and Brianne Nicole. She provided them with loving and nurturing care. She taught them how to read and write before they entered school. In her earlier years, she worked in retail.
Of her many interests, Natalia was most passionate about the multitude of activities that involved her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed participating in art and dance classes. She was also was involved in bible studies, crocheting, painting, sewing, and social dances. She enjoyed attending concerts, the Mariachi conferences, and bus trips to casino with her dearest family and friends.
Ever present was her love for her family, friends, and most importantly, her grandchildren. She was always aware of every activity, interest, talent, appointments, and occasions that revolved around her grandchildren. Her "New Sparkplugs" kept her going as she was blessed with 2 new beautiful granddaughters: Raylan Nicole and Ihrin Natalia. She will be greatly missed, but will remain in our hearts from the thoughts of family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Marisa Leon of Tucson and Sandy Leon-Friede (Darin) of Tucson; Daughter in law, Rachel Faccio (George); grandchildren, Daniel Michael (Jessica), Brianne Nicole (Kyle), Clairesse (Kelly), Anjolie, Christopher; Great grandchildren, Raylan Nicole, Ihrin Natalia, Evie, and Liam; Sister, Viola Robles; Brother, Francisco Esquer (Judy), and numerous god children, nieces, and nephews.
