IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mitchell "Mickey"
Charles Kendrick
November 20, 1948 – June 2, 2024
Mitchell "Mickey" Charles Kendrick was born on November 20, 1948, in Douglas, AZ. He received his wings on June 2, 2024.
Mickey is survived by his loving partner Helen Grijalva, his stepchildren; Lacey and Paul (Maria) Grijalva, his grandchildren; Bailey, Charlis, Brooklyn, Evie, Helen, and Paul, many loyal friends and extended family members. Mickey was preceded by his parents; Hortensia and Mitchell Kendrick and his sisters; Nola Kendrick, Frances Zulewski, and Annie Taylor.
Mick was raised in Douglas. It was there he developed lifelong friendships, was a member of various sports, and later attended Cochise College. He was a longtime member of the American Legion and the Coachmen. In 1968 he was drafted to Vietnam. For two years he served in E-5 in the 25th Infantry Division, 2nd /27th Infantry (Wolfhounds). As a medic he was given the nickname "Big Doc."
For 15 years Mickey held countless conversations with thousands of people who filtered through the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. His job may have been a bartender but, he would tell you stories of how he builds friendships, often served as a counselor, held story telling sessions, or filled the bar with laughs from his "funny" jokes.
In his later years, after reconnecting with Helen and dating for some time, he realized his life was in Tucson. It in that decision Mickey not only was closer to the love of his life but also inherited an instant family. It was in Tucson he obtained his license as a Broker for Medicare. He also ventured into the tax business where he owned and operated a franchise with Liberty Tax Service.
Mickey will be remembered for many things; his love of music and dancing, his stories, but his heart to give beyond measure is something unmatched. His memory will remain embedded in those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace and continue to feel our love.
