In Loving Memory of Mercedes Gomez-Morado September 24, 1953 – June 17, 2025

We sadly announce the passing of Mercedes Gomez-Morado, who died peacefully in her home on June 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 24, 1953, Mercedes was the daughter of Brijido and Socorro Gomez and a lifelong resident of Tucson, Arizona. She graduated from Salpointe Catholic High School in 1971, then continued her education at Pima Community College and the University of Arizona, where she earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Education.

Mercedes dedicated over 40 years of her life to teaching in Tucson's public schools. She began in the Sunnyside Unified School District and later taught in the Tucson Unified School District. Her passion for education spanned elementary, special education, and middle school. She touched thousands of lives with her compassion, commitment, and unwavering belief in her students' potential, always focused not just on academic success, but also their personal growth and well-being.

A devout Catholic, Mercedes was deeply rooted in her faith. She generously gave her time as a volunteer at Banner University Medical Center for more than 20 years, logging over 3,000 hours, and also volunteered weekly at McCorkle Academy K–8.

Mercedes is survived by her beloved husband, Abel Morado, and their five children: Roberto, Margarita, Jaime, Antonia, and Enrique. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Gomez, and her cherished grandchildren: Nicholas, Kristiana, Augustine, and Lucas. Her family was eagerly awaiting the birth of Mateo at the time of her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Brijido and Socorro Gomez; her brothers, Tony Gomez and Fabian Gomez; and her sister, Henrietta Muñoz.

Mercedes had a gift for connecting with people. Her warmth, humor, and generous spirit made her a beloved friend, mentor, and member of the community. She loved deeply, especially her extended family and her loyal dog, Dodger.

We are heartbroken by her passing and will carry her memory with us always as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, nina, and friend. Our faith sustains us as we await the day we are reunited.
