Mercedes Alicia Basaca Valenzuela, passed away on June 10, 2022, she was 69 years old. Alicia was born on September 24, 1952. Alicia is survived by her husband, Juan Basaca; 3 daughters and their spouses, 5 grandchildren, 1 Great Granddaughter, her 4 brothers and 6 sisters.
Born to Librado Valenzuela and Socorro Zapata in Aribabi, Sonora, Mexico but preferred to say she was born in her beloved Tecate, Baja California where she moved at the age of 4. She attended school in San Luis Rio, Colorado where she attended elementary school. She loved cooking and helped raise her younger siblings. At the age of 17, Alicia met her husband Juan Basaca and got married in Bisbee, AZ. They lived in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico until finally moving to Tucson, AZ in 1975 with their four daughters. Alicia relocated her entire family to afford her two daughters Norma and Monica a better education and opportunity to attend Arizona School for The Deaf and Blind. Her youngest daughter Marcia eventually attended Arizona Stated School for The Deaf and Blind. Alicia raised her oldest grandchild Juan Andres and granddaughter Liliana as her own and helped with her great-granddaughter Alia.
For Alicia, Acts of Service was her love language. She believed in generosity and loved feeding anyone that was hungry for a home cooked meal. Alicia was also known for helping anyone who sought her help from family, friends, and strangers alike.
Alicia enjoyed traveling to California and Canada to visit her daughter, Veronica and grandchildren, Joseph, Ryan and Bry. Alicia enjoyed playing slots at the casino, praying, singing, cooking, and spending family time with all her loving family and friends. She especially loved spending time with her Valenzuela sisters praying the daily rosary together.
Alicia is preceded in death by her daughter, Marcia Yvonne Guzman Basaca; parents, Librado Valenzuela & Socorro Zapata; her beloved sister, Blanca Lydia Perez, and four siblings.
