Al amanecer el 9 de junio de 2023, María Loreto Romero Galaz, de 80 años, subió al reino de Dios, rodeada por familia.  Tanita, como todos la conocían, vivirá en la memoria de los que la conocieron como esposa y madre amorosa, una tierna hermana, una persona eternamente positiva, una excelente cocinera y la mujer más cariñosa que pudiste haber conocido.

Tanita nació el 26 de agosto de 1942, en Bacadéhuachi, Sonora, México; fue la tercera de once hermanos.  Sus padres, de origen humilde, trabajaban en los campos agrícolas de la costa de Hermosillo, al igual que la familia de su amigo de infancia, Santiago Galaz.  Las dos familias muchas veces se juntaban en el mismo campo.  Después de enamorarse, Santiago y Tanita decidieron emigrar a los Estados Unidos de América.  En North Hollywood, California, criaron a sus cinco hijos, en una casita llena de amor, en la calle Beck.  Durante su tiempo en North Hollywood, Tanita estuvo muy activa en la iglesia Católica San Patricio, donde se hizo catequista y siempre cocinaba la comida más deliciosa para las fiestas parroquiales.  Santiago y Tanita participaron en el movimiento ECIM (Encuentros Católicos de Integración Matrimonial), primero como estudiantes, luego como líderes.  Tanita también estuvo muy activa en la escuela de sus hijos, hasta como presidenta del PTA, un año.

En 1991, decidieron moverse a Tucson, Arizona, donde, eventualmente, compraron un lote cerca de Three Points, AZ.  Allí, Santiago y Tanita construyeron el hogar de sus sueños. Allí, Tanita plantó flores, árboles y hierbas, con mucho amor y orgullo.  Los cumpleaños y días festivos siempre eran lo más divertido, cuando el orgullo y amor de su familia relucía lo más brillante y, por supuesto, se llenaba la casa de la comida más rica. Tanita siguió como catequista en Three Points, a través de la iglesia Nuestra Señora de Fátima.  Como no hay iglesia católica en Three Points, todos los sábados, ella improvisaba una escuelita de catecismo para docenas de niños, debajo de un mesquite, en su casa.  Hizo esto por muchos años.

El que conocía a Tanita sabía que era un ángel en la Tierra. Era el epítome de la bondad, siempre con un oído para escuchar, lista para ayudar de cualquier manera, y siempre con el café listo para las visitas.  Ella y Santiago hicieron una vida maravillosa juntos, formaron una pareja llena de amor por más de 56 años, y amigos de toda la vida. Santiago, cariñosamente, cuidó a Tanita hasta sus últimos suspiros.

Tanita es precedida en muerte por sus padres, María Loreto Moreno y Juan de Dios Romero, su hermana Josefina y su hermano Jesús Pedro, y su primer nieto, Santiago Julian Galaz. Le sobreviven su esposo amado, Santiago Galaz; sus cinco hijos: Andrés (Anna María) Galaz, Santiago (Lara) Galaz, Karla (Mike) Goytia, Dolores (Jason) Addison y Juan Galaz.  También le sobreviven 15 nietos que eran el mundo para ella, sus hermanas, hermano y muchos más familiares y amigos.

As the sun began to rise on June 9, 2023, Maria Loreto Romero Galaz, 80, passed peacefully to heaven, surrounded by family.  Tanita, as she was lovingly known, will be remembered as a loving wife, wonderful mother, affectionate sister, endlessly optimistic, an amazing cook, and the kindest person one will ever know.

Tanita was born August 26, 1942 in Bacadéhuachi, Sonora, Mexico, the third of eleven children. Her parents, who came from humble backgrounds, worked agriculture fields across the coast of Sonora, as did the family of her childhood friend, Santiago Galaz. In many instances, both families ended up working on the same field. Santiago and Tanita fell in love and began their journey together as young adults in Hermosillo, Sonora, eventually immigrating to North Hollywood, CA in 1970.  There, they raised five children in a loving home on Beck Avenue. In North Hollywood, Tanita was active in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where she became a Catechist and made amazing food for church festivals. Santiago and she also participated in ECIM (Encuentros Católicos de Integración Matrimonial), as attendants and eventually leaders. Additionally, Tanita was active in her children's elementary school PTA, serving as the PTA president at one point.

In 1991, the family moved to Tucson, eventually buying land near Three Points, AZ.  Tanita and Santiago built their dream home, where Tanita, an avid gardener, planted flowers, trees, and herbs; she was proud of every single one of her plants and meticulously cared for them.  Holidays and birthdays were always a festive event, where the pride and love for her family shined the brightest, and of course, were filled with Tanita's amazing cooking. Tanita continued to teach Catechism for the Diocese of Tucson in the Three Points area through Our Lady of Fatima.  Since there is no Catholic church building in Three Points, every Saturday morning she would set up tables under a large mesquite tree at their home and teach catechism to dozens of kids.  She did this for several years.

Anyone who knew Tanita knew she was an angel among us.  She was the epitome of kindness, always lent an ear to listen, helped those in need in any way she could, and always had coffee ready for a visit.  She and Santiago made a wonderful life together, a loving couple for over 56 years, and lifelong friends. Santiago lovingly cared for her until her final breaths.

Tanita is preceded in death by her parents, Maria Loreto Moreno and Juan de Dios Romero; her sister, Josefina and brother, Jesus Pedro; and her first grandson Santiago Julian Galaz. She is survived by her loving husband Santiago; her five children: Andres (Anna Maria) Galaz, Santiago (Lara) Galaz, Karla (Mike) Goytia, Dolores (Jason) Addison, and Juan Galaz.  She is also survived by 15 grandchildren who meant the world to her, her sisters, brother, and many more family and friends.
