IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret "Yaya"
Romo
September 30, 1924 – June 2, 2024
Margaret was born at St. Mary's Hospital to Eugenio Erique and Maria Gamboa Erique. Maria succumbed to toxemia shortly after giving birth and Margaret was raised by her mother's sisters; her tias.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her tias who raised her, her husband of 50 years, Reynaldo Romo; her sons, Rey Jr. and Bob.
Margaret is survived by her son, David Romo; daughters, Theresa Ramirez (Andy), Rose Romo (Ruben); Grandchildren, Veronica Avery (Ed), David Romo (Amanda), Theresa Smith (Justin), Suzanne Romo, Lorena Taylor (Les), Sergio Dabdoub (Rick), Desiree Romo (Tanicia), Danielle Rodriguez (Gilbert), Andrew Ramirez (Samantha), Cody Ballesteros (Taylor), Alex Ballesteros (Sean), and Jasmine Ballesteros; Great- grandchildren, Michael Avery, Andrew Romo, Jameson Smith, Caleb Kelly, Jacob and Layla Rodriguez, Hayden, Taylor, and Lily Ramirez; Daughters-in-law, Lupita Romo, Anna Romo (former) and Hortencia Romo; Sister-in-law, Sylvia Gardner (Wayne) and many godchildren, cousins, nephews and nieces.
Margaret was an amazing wife and mother, always dedicated to her family, whom she treasured. She was a talented seamstress, and she also knitted and crocheted many beautiful shawls, and ponchos. She loved to cook and folks raved over her cooking, whenever we had get-togethers.
Mom graduated from Tucson High School in 1943, a proud Badger. She married Reynaldo in 1951 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage; together, they raised 5 children.
In her younger days, she loved to go camping and she and Dad were always exploring new spots to pick bellotas, fish, and camp; we were always on some kind of adventure.
Mom was an avid reader, she loved going to the movies, and really enjoyed the simple things in life. She was a prayerful woman and very devoted to her faith, she would spend hours praying in her prayer room where she had so many religious icons, prayer cards, rosaries, candles, it resembled a small chapel. She prayed for EVERYONE!
Mom had the most beautiful singing voice and she taught my sister and I a lot of songs, and she would sing us to sleep at nap time. She also loved to dance and taught us how to jitterbug! I loved watching my parents dance at weddings we attended, corridos were their favorite, though my Dad would only join her after a couple of beers, they glided seamlessly along the dance floor.
Mom lived for 99 years and while she may have had a tough start in life, moving around from home to home after losing her own mom at birth, she was always so loved by everyone. Her cousins were like siblings and they held a close relationship well into adulthood, becoming godparents to each other's children. Even in her last hours, she was surrounded by so much love. Go with God, Mom, you were a faithful and humble servant, go to your heavenly home where open arms await you.
