Obituary

Leonard E. Carrasco was born on October 17, 1938, in Nogales, Sonora. He went to school in Tucson, Arizona and attended St. Augustine Catholic grade school and graduated from Salpointe Catholic High School. He served as an altar boy, belonged to the Future Catholic Leaders, and served over 10 years as a volunteer at the Diocese of Tucson. He was also a faithful volunteer at St. Ambrose Catholic School and the St. Mary's Parish Nursing Program at the Santa Cruz Health Clinic. He enjoyed traveling and went on various pilgrimages in Mexico, including to the Basilica de Guadalupe, and Europe. He was an avid hat and coin collector and one of his favorite past-times was giving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren silver coins during the holidays. He was a huge Arizona Wildcats fan, enjoyed watching all sports, and in the evenings you could find him watching western shows or MASH. He enjoyed cooking and was the first one to volunteer to bring something when invited, and never missed an event. He treasured the time he spent with his childhood friends and family. He was selfless and humble, always putting his faith and family first.

He served in the military as an army medic in the Presidential Honor Guard stationed in Washington DC, and later continued to serve in the Army Reserve. He returned to Tucson, to marry the love of his life, Leova, in 1964. After raising their two girls, he retired from a career working in the grocery industry. He played an integral role in helping raise his grandchildren and served as a father figure in all their lives. He adored his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a fighter and battled many health issues including issues with his heart and several bouts of cancer. He passed away peacefully on July 25th at the age of 85, surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his father, Leonardo, mother, Eugenia, sister, Maria Antonieta, brothers, Francisco, Jose, and Alonso, and wife, Leova. He is survived by his children, Bella and Charlotte (Abel); grandchildren, Sonya (Juan De Dios), Leo (Emily), Anthony, Priscilla (Michael), Abel Jr; and great-grandchildren, Maximus, Arianna, Andrea, and Samson. He is also survived by his sisters, Maria Conception (Billy) and Maria Jesus; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many great friends.
