IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Juanita Gallardo
Ybarra
November 27, 1920 – September 13, 2023
Juanita Gallardo Ybarra
our beloved mom, passed away peacefully at home on September 13, 2023, at the age of 102. Jenny was born on November 27, 1920 in Phoenix, Arizona. She lived for many years in Tucson until 1966, when the family moved to California.
Mom had such a love of life. She was never too tired, too scared, or too old to try something new. Among her many talents, she was a gifted seamstress. She made all of our clothes. She sewed for other people, did outside ironing, and did tax returns for friends and family. She did all this and more as she struggled to raise four children.
She never gave up even though she went through some really tough times. She persevered. Her legacy to us is just that; perseverance, love of family, and most importantly love of God. Mom had the gift of being a good listener and a soft shoulder to cry on. She was a proud graduate of Tucson High - a rare accomplishment for her and her family at that time. She also worked as a librarian for the University of Arizona during the war.
She was predeceased by her parents, Santiago and Maria Gallardo; her brother, Santiago Gallardo Junior; her sister, Josephine DeMoss; and two other siblings who died in infancy. Her husband, Philip Ybarra; her son, Philip Ybarra Junior; and her infant daughter, Mary Jane Ybarra. She leaves behind her daughter, Sylvia (Ernest) Dena; son, John (Annette, dec.); son, Joseph Ybarra; her daughter-in-law, Nancy (Philip, dec.) Ybarra. She also leaves behind her granddaughters, Michelle Austin, Angela Nelson, Yvonne Lake, Tanya Sanders, Emily Ybarra, and Holly Ybarra. Her grandsons; Ernie Dena, Johnny Ybarra, Philip Ybarra, Tony Ybarra, Joey Ybarra, and Jimmy Ybarra. She had sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
