Joe V. Figueroa, a proud Veteran of World War II and life resident of Tucson, AZ, passed away at the wonderful age of 96, on March 28 ^th , 2023 surrounded by family and friends.  He was predeceased by his wife of 76 years, Viola Figueroa. Joe is survived by his 3 sons, Joe, Carlos and Jim, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe was born on May 12, 1926, in Tucson, Arizona, to Jesus Figueroa and Maria Valenzuela.

Joe's service and love for military aircraft began in 1944 when he was hired as a Civil Service technician at Davis-Monthan Army Airfield, as an Aircraft Armament Mechanic on B-24 and B-17 aircraft.  In 1945 he enlisted into the Army Air Force and deployed to Japan with the 9 ^th Reconnaissance Squadron, as a Supply Technician. After serving for one year and seven months, he was honorably discharged and received the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupational Medal. In 1951 he was recalled from inactive duty and served in the B-29 Air Refueling Squadron, as an Aircraft Mechanic, until he was again honorably discharged in 1953.  He continued his Civil Service career with DMAFB Military Aircraft Storage and Disposition Center (MASDC) till his retirement in 1980.

Joe loved the American Flag and would render a salute at every given opportunity. He loved to watch college basketball and play golf. In fact, he was known to chip whiffle balls into the dining room after Viola went to work! He also loved to make people laugh with jokes and humorous tricks.
