In Loving Memory of Irma Meza Sanders

October 19th, 1948 – June 4th, 2026

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and matriarch, Irma Meza Sanders, who unexpectedly passed away on June 4th, 2026, at the age of 77.

Irma was born on October 19th, 1948 in Tucson, AZ, and spent her life doing things her own way with strength, determination, and an unwavering commitment to her family.

Throughout her life, Irma worked as a cattle broker for the reservation, owned and operated a feed store, worked as a stock contractor, and later spent several years as a slot attendant at the casino. She was proud of her work and earned the respect of those around her through her honesty, grit, and incredible work ethic.

But more than anything, Irma was devoted to her family. She was a loving mother who taught her children to be brave, strong, independent, and hardworking. She believed in standing on your own two feet and facing life's challenges head on. She could be tough and stubborn, but everything she did came from a place of love and a desire to prepare her children for life.

Irma loved animals and found joy in caring for them. Along with cattle and horses, she raised birds, chickens, goats, and donkeys. Not to forget her partner in crime, Hope her chihuahua. Her home was always full of life, hard work, and purpose. She loved the ranching lifestyle and took pride in the work that came with it.

Those who knew Irma knew she was a force to be reckoned with. She was strong willed, independent, and the backbone of her family. She carried the weight of responsibility without complaint and provided strength and stability through every hardship. She was the boss, and everyone knew it. Yet beneath her tough exterior was a woman with a generous heart who loved deeply and fiercely protected those she cared about.

One of the greatest tragedies of Irma's life was the loss of her daughter, Michelle Sanders, who preceded her in death. Along with her parents Jesus and Alice Meza. While we take comfort in knowing they are together again, their absence leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved them.

Irma leaves behind a family that was her greatest accomplishment and source of pride. She is survived by her children, Chuey (Anna) Sanders, their children, Monique (Roscoe) and Jesus; Julio (Jessica) Sanders their children, Siena, Sarea, and Santiago; Faustina Sanders her children, Liza and David "John Wayne"; and Florentina (Vincent) Vega their daughter, Emmalina. Grandson Manuel “Gordie” (Jarumi) Urquides, great-grandchildren Carlos and Christian. Granddaughter Aliana Sanders, great-grandchildren Westyn and Brayden. Many life long friends that became family.

Irma's family was her legacy. The lessons she taught, the strength she passed on, and the love she gave will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. While we will miss her voice, her guidance, and her presence, we carry her spirit with us every day.

We will remember her as a woman who worked hard, loved fiercely, stood her ground, and never gave up. She taught us how to be strong when life was difficult and how to keep moving forward no matter the obstacles. For that, we will be forever grateful.

Mom, Granny, Nana Hope, Nana, thank you for everything you gave us. Your strength built this family, your love held it together, and your memory will remain in our hearts forever.

Until we meet again.
