Obituary

Ibon Jaffe Utsch was born October 22, 1966, in Empalme, Mexico, and passed away at her home in Tucson, Arizona, on May 9, 2026.

Ibon’s life was defined by her unwavering qualities of fierce loyalty and love. She devoted herself to being an attentive, active, and fun mom, attending every field trip, recital, and sports game. She always stood up for the underdog, serving wherever she went and being the cheerleader or quite supporter of many, a quality that defined her entire life. Above all, her faith guided her life as she reflected the Savior’s love and spirit through quiet acts of compassion, generosity, and service.

She gave herself to a career as a dedicated nurse. From phlebotomy to working on the neuro floor, she craved organizing, streamlining, and projects that improved education and facility abilities. Her professional legacy includes organizing successful stroke programs at Northwest Medical Center and Oro Valley Hospital, where she saved countless patients and collaborated with many nurses and physicians who became dear friends.

Ibon and her husband, Jeff, shared 35 years of marriage and built a home centered on faith, love, and family. One way she often expressed this love was through cooking. Every week, she prepared traditional Mexican soups that brought her family together around the table. While everyone looked forward to eating, her greatest joy was simply watching the people she loved enjoy her meal together. One of her family’s favorite traditions was choosing a special birthday meal for Mom to prepare each year for their family celebration.

She also found peace and purpose in gardening, carefully creating small “secret gardens” around her home filled with plants chosen for their beauty and medicinal properties. Together, Ibon and Jeff created countless memories for their children through family vacations filled with adventure, laughter, history, water parks, and time spent visiting friends and loved ones across many places.

Every challenge Ibon faced in life was seen as an opportunity to plan, lead, learn, and then teach. She handled life’s challenges with remarkable grace and wisdom. She would never ask, “Why me?” but instead approached every trial by asking, “What can I learn from this?”

She is survived by her husband, Jeff Utsch; her children, Briana, Jordan, Jackson, and Isabella; and her sisters, Linda Jaffe and Diana Jaffe. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edelmira “Rosa” Ayala and Richard Bowman Jaffe, and looked forward with joy to being reunited with them.
