IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Herman Frank
Morales
December 21, 1928 – September 17, 2025
Herman Francisco Morales, 96, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on December 21, 1928, in Yuma, Arizona, to Francisco and Beatrice Morales. Herman was raised in Tucson and later made his life in Santa Barbara, California, a city he dearly loved and always called "home." After retiring, he returned to Tucson, where he treasured spending time with his siblings, nieces, nephews, and especially his grandchildren.
Herman proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for two years. Following his service, he attended the University of Arizona Pharmacy School on the GI Bill, laying the foundation for a career that would span decades. A dedicated professional and entrepreneur, he owned and operated Santa Barbara Pharmacy for more than 30 years, serving his community with care and integrity. He also served as President of the Santa Barbara Pharmacy Association, earning the respect of colleagues across the profession.
It was at Thrifty Drug in Santa Barbara that Herman met the love of his life, Jacqueline Furay. They were married at the Santa Barbara Old Mission and shared 69 wonderful years together. Herman adored his wife, Jacqueline—"Jackie"—with all his heart. She was truly his best friend, his partner, and the love of his life. He spent his days dedicated in adoration of her, and their bond was the foundation of the family they built together.
Herman and Jacqueline were blessed with four children: Michael, Martin, Monty, and Micheline. He took great pride not only in raising them but also in the unique opportunity to work alongside them. All of his children worked side by side with him and his wife at the pharmacy, making it a true family endeavor. He was the cherished grandfather of eleven grandchildren—Nicholas, Matthew, Marcus, Jennifer, Lucas, Benjamin, Kiley, Daniel, Tyler, Elyse, and Noah—and the proud great-grandfather of eleven great-great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
Faith and community were central to Herman's life. A devoted Catholic, he lived his faith daily and served as an usher at the Santa Barbara Old Mission for 25 years, where he was also a member of the Parish Council. He was President of the Santa Barbara Northside Optimist Club and a long-time member of the Santa Barbara Tennis Club, where he was passionate about the game and proud to compete at a high level well into his later years.
Herman loved sports of all kinds—both playing and watching. He was a lifelong fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the University of Arizona Wildcats, and nothing brought him more joy than Saturday college football. He especially enjoyed the spirited rivalry between USC and the University of Arizona, always cheering with enthusiasm. He also delighted in coaching his grandchildren's baseball teams for decades, passing on lessons of teamwork, discipline, and joy in the game.
Herman also loved competition in all its forms. He played tennis with energy and skill, and he played the Mexican card game Malia competitively with family members, often using the game as a way to connect across generations. He enjoyed telling stories about his life experiences and his life's journey, filling family gatherings with humor, wisdom, and pride. As he often said to his loved ones, "Herman did real well for himself."
He had a deep love of animals and constantly reminded his children to "pat your dog on the head and tell him that I love them." He fondly remembered his days on Richard's Ranch and carried a lifelong affection for horses. Hawaii also held a special place in his heart; he often said the islands called him back, and he cherished each visit as a homecoming.
A true optimist at heart, Herman greeted every person and animal with a smile. He loved meeting new people, making friends wherever he went, and instilled in his children the values of hard work, perseverance, and never giving up.
Herman will be remembered for his devotion to family, his generosity of spirit, his dedication to community, and the way he lived life with energy, humor, and love. He was a true cheerleader for his family and friends, always encouraging and celebrating the successes of those around him. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, mentor, and friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife Jacqueline; his children Michael, Martin, Monty, and Micheline; his sons- and daughters-in-law Linda, Kathryn, Greg, and Monty's fiancée Carolyn—whom he lovingly treated as his own children; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; extended family; and his faithful cat, Gigi. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona or the Santa Barbara Humane Society , honoring Herman's lifelong love of animals.
