Obituary

Gloria Barreda Boyed passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 90 on August 9, 2023.  Born April 25,1933 in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, she was raised in the town of Magdalena, Sonora where she spent her idyllic childhood in loving company of a large family and many friends. During her early adulthood, she was "ahead of her time" and worked alongside her father at El Banco de Nogales. She married Fernando Boyed from Tucson, Arizona on November 30, 1967. Through her marriage, she discovered her calling as an exemplary Mother to four children. She went on to dedicate herself as a loving and selfless mother, wife, and grandmother for over 70 years. In addition to raising her children, she enjoyed her activities as a Columbiette for the Knights of Columbus, as well as practicing her Catholic faith by attending Mass regularly at St Ambrose Catholic Parish. She was fiercely proud of her beloved Mexico and maintained her status as a Mexican citizen, despite being a permanent U.S. resident since the time she was married. She loved returning to Mexico for family visits, as her heart remained in Mexico for the duration of her life. She returned to the workforce in the 1980's as a Cashier and Hostess at her brother-in-law's restaurant, the iconic Molinas Midway Restaurant.  She became a beloved member of Molina's Midway staff for many years until she retired in 1997. Gloria personified many of life's virtues including patience, dignity, humility, honesty, forgiveness, compassion, faith, generosity and above all LOVE. She graciously demonstrated to her family and friends an ability to show love in a way that came with ease to her.  Her internal and external beauty was obvious to all those who encountered her.  She will forever be cherished as "Mami" to her children and "Mani" to her 9 grandchildren. When she became afflicted by Alzheimer's Disease, she battled its storms with immense bravery and strength.  Despite her illness, she continued to show her love to all as well as smile and laugh through her difficult times. Her faith and love for Jesus Christ and her children were constants throughout her life. May she rejoice in Heaven as she reunites with her husband Fernando, as well as her other loved ones who have gone before her. Although she will be deeply missed by all, she will remain in our hearts forever.

Preceded in death by her husband of forty-six years, Fernando; She is survived by her sister Norma Barreda as well as her children and grandchildren: Yvonne Boyed Arden, Diana Lake, Maria Cecilia De La Fuente (Mario), Walter Boyed (Veronica), George Arden III, Ulysses Arden, Lynden Arden, Harrison Arden, Gabriella Lake, Liam Lake, Sabrina De La Fuente, Andres De La Fuente, Isaac De La Fuente.

The Boyed family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Gloria's special caregivers: Esmeralda, Ithzel, Selene, Ana, Miriam and Lydia for caring for Gloria with great compassion, kindness and love during the years of her illness. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to a cure for Alzheimer's Disease https://www.alz.org/
