Gilbert was born June 16, 1941, in Globe, Arizona, but lived for most of his life in Tucson Arizona. He passed away at the age of 82, after a valiant fight against throat cancer.  He is now in the comforting company of his parents, father Emilio L. Maldonado and mother Lupe N. Perez.  Also preceded in death by his brother Gene Maldonado, sister Rita Maldonado Escobar and daughter Lisa Moreno. Survived by his sister Emilia (Molly) Maldonado Esparza and brother Refugio Perez Jr.

Gilbert served in the Army Paratroopers, his rank being Corporal E-4 with his honorable discharge.  He earned his parachutist badge and was proud of his 42 jumps.  He proudly Flew his flag at home on appropriate days like Veteran's and Memorial Day. After the army he attended welding school and worked for many years then retired from Horizon Steel Company in Tucson, Arizona.
