Obituary

Georgina Dalton-Sotelo, 83, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, in Tucson, Arizona. Born to George and Anastacia Parra Dalton, Georgina was a proud 1961 graduate of Pueblo High School. Though she lost her mother in a tragic accident as a toddler, she was raised with steady care by her stepmother, Refugio “Ruth/Cuca” Dalton. Together, George and Cuca created a close, loving blended family that shaped the woman Georgina would become.

Known for a vibrant, feisty personality and a voice that preceded her into every room, "Gina" lived life to the fullest. She was the true life of the party, never turning down a glass of beer or wine. Her legendary work ethic was fueled by a fierce devotion to her children; for years, she balanced multiple jobs to ensure they had everything they needed.

Gina’s professional journey was a testament to her perseverance. After working downtown at Lerner’s and David’s Shoes in the 1960s, she re-entered the workforce in the late 1970s with a "do whatever it takes" attitude to support her children, Gilbert and Myrna. She worked in housekeeping at the DoubleTree Hotel—eventually rising to a Night Audit position—while also serving as a cashier at the Beverage Barn. When her eldest daughter challenged her to "practice what she preached" regarding education, Gina rose to the occasion, earning two associate degrees from Pima Community College. This achievement propelled a 23-year career with the City of Tucson, where she rose from clerk to Planning Technician before retiring in 2008. Even then, she maintained a second career with the Federal Census Bureau, from which she also retired.

Gina had a well-known affinity for the finer things, though her "champagne taste" occasionally clashed with her "beer budget." A dedicated regular at Macy’s, she could never resist a one-day sale—even those that miraculously stretched into three. She swore by Lancôme face cream to maintain her smooth complexion and was a regular at the concert hall, where she often brought her husband along to appreciate the symphony. Eating out was another favorite pastime; Pinnacle Peak was her top choice, and even in her final days, her answer to what she wanted for dinner was always a resounding "steak."

She was equally famous for creating over-the-top holiday magic, particularly her conquests of Black Friday at Toys "R" Us. She took her shopping so seriously that she once famously squared off with another customer over a sale item to ensure her family had the best Christmas possible.

Navigating the complex and taxing demands of Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s was a significant challenge for the family. Yet, despite the inherent hardships of these conditions, her children remained devoted to her care at different times, providing her with comfort and dignity until the end. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Infinity Assisted Living for their caring and compassionate care over the last two years.

Georgina is survived by her children, Virginia (John) Monyak, Gilbert (Kathryn) Huerta, and Myrna Huerta; her siblings, Jesse Dalton, Carmen Paz, and Margie Dalton; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two more on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Anastacia; her stepmother, Refugio Dalton; her siblings, Arturo Rosales and Antonia “Toni” Martinez; her husband,

Gilbert Sotelo; and her eldest grandchild, Martin Encinas.

May her spirited soul finally find rest as she is welcomed through the pearly gates by those who went before her.
