Obituary

Francisco "Tachi" Xavier Montaño passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and on his terms, on Tuesday, November 1, 2022.

Frank (Tachi) was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.  He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Monica Ann; grandson, Emilio Francisco; brother, Abe; and parents, Francisco & Aurora.

He is survived by his beautiful wife of 50 years, Norma Bermudez Montaño; daughters, V. Renée Montaño (Ken Urdahl), and Cné Montaño (Robert Coronado); grandchildren, Veronica Coronado and Samantha Coronado, Augustine Pargas (Danielle Naney) and Adriana Pargas; great-grandson, Isaac Pargas.  He is also survived by three brothers, four sisters, numerous nephews, nieces, compadres, Coachmen brothers and friends he called family.

Frank (Tachi) was born on August 3, 1946 in Douglas, AZ.  He graduated a proud Bulldog from Douglas High School and served in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer. He spoke proudly of his service and his time on the east coast.  He then attended Pima Community College for a short time on the GI bill.

Frank (Tachi) was a man of high energy and quick wit.  He found his path in insurance and made his career as a broker spanning 30 years in the field of Medicare and senior health insurance.  He made customer service his number one priority, offering help and support far beyond the simple sale of a policy.  For this reason, he was the recipient of various awards over the years earning his top salesman, trips and accolades he was proud to share with his wife and family.

While Frank (Tachi) was able to accomplish many things in his 76 years, he often spoke of what he regarded as one of his greatest accomplishments - the life he built with his beautiful wife Norma.  He regarded her as his biggest fan and largest support in gaining the success he was able to achieve.  Recently they celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary.  This milestone was a momentous marker in their life together as a reminder of all they had overcome and accomplished together. Including the loss of their dearly loved daughter in 1996, the loss of their grandson in 1997, the remission of Norma's breast cancer in 1999, and the 11 years Frank lived with lung cancer- far beyond what any doctor thought he would ever be able to do upon his diagnosis in 2011. Through it all they remained steadfast to each other and to their family, laughing, smiling and living in the joyous moments that life brought; an example to their girls and their families.

At the heart of Frank's (Tachi's) life and home was music.  He was a musician at heart and played in a band from the time he was in high school all the way to the last few years of his life when he would play with his sister, brother and brother-in-law.  He was a drummer and had a music room in his home that housed instruments for each of his grand and great grandchildren.  The walls covered with bands of the past including the infamous "Golden Age".

Frank (Tachi) was someone that meant so much to so many.  He was quick with a joke, addicted to Facebook and always there with a 3 am post to look forward to.  His humor had a little something for everyone, his stories had a fable and lesson if you listened close enough, he could find a song to go with anything you were trying to say- maybe even sing you a verse or two.  His love for the U of A was unparalleled, it was hard to find someone that knew more about what was happening in the college sector of football or basketball.  He will be missed by so many for so many reasons.
