Francisco Z. Fernandez, 78, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona.
Born on September 22, 1946, in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico, Francisco was the youngest of five children. He pursued a lifelong passion for education and service earning a Master's in Education degree from the University of Arizona, dedicating his career to fostering knowledge and growth in others as a professor and Dean of Students at Pima Community College.
Francisco proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam war, demonstrating courage and commitment to our country. Beyond his professional and military achievements, Francisco was known for his generosity and willingness to help others at any time.
An avid enthusiast of pickleball and cycling, Francisco embraced an active lifestyle. He also found joy in traveling and watching baseball, but above all else, Francisco cherished time spent with his grandsons.
Francisco is survived by his son Antonio (Amber) Fernandez; daughter Maritza (Anthony) Bustamante; grandsons J.C., Antonio, and Anthony, and sisters Talpa (Cosme) Rodriguez, Loretta Fernandez, and Maria Olea. Francisco was preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Azuncion Fernandez, brother Ricardo (Ruth) Fernandez, and the love of his life, wife Martha.
Francisco's kindness and unwavering support for others will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those he leaves behind.
