IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frances Norma
Valdez
October 14, 1932 – April 15, 2025
Frances "Norma" Valdez died peacefully surrounded by family on April 15, 2025, at age 92. Our beloved Nana was a true light for our family, her friends, and the community. Norma's life was one of deep love, compassion, and service, led by her unwavering faith in God. Norma joins her dancing partner of 70 years, husband Arcenio Valdez, and precious son William Valdez, who preceded her in death. Norma was born on October 14, 1932, at the historic Stork's Nest in El Presidio District. She graduated from Tucson High in 1951, belonged to Club Mavis, loved the dances at the El Casino Ballroom, worked as a beautician at Steinfeld's, became a registered nurse, and worked at Handmaker's, where she cared for the elderly. Her service in the community included being a lifelong member of the Columbiettes Knights of Columbus 1200, volunteering for 10 years at SAAF and TIHAN for AIDS, volunteering as a eucharistic minister at her church, and making thousands of rosaries for the past 40 years. She loved taking trips with family and friends to go camping and fishing. She danced into her 90s. Norma is a rare soul who gave us so much love. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Robert J Fisher and Atala Arvizu Calvillo, stepfather Ignacio Calvillo, and siblings Robert Fisher (Mary), Gilbert Fisher (Frances/ Lily), James Fisher (Lily), Henry Fisher, and Oscar Fisher (Rosemary). Survived by her children, Magdalena Palmer (Mark Powter), Victor (Linda Jadwin), Anthony (David Werner), daughter-in-law Barbara Valdez, and grandchildren Sonja Darcangelo (John), Coty Valdez, Megan Valdez, her three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Norma will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, kindness, comfort, encouragement, and love for all. The family would like to thank her caregivers at Starfish Care Homes for the love and care they gave her.
