IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Fernando Q.
Mendivil
May 29, 1937 – May 21, 2022
Fernando Q. Mendívil passed away suddenly on May 21, 2022, in Tucson, Arizona.
Fernando was born on May 29, 1937, in Benson, Arizona, to Pedro and Carlota (Quihuiz) Mendívil. Fernando received his Master's degree of Foreign Trade from Thunderbird American Institute of Foreign Trade in 1960 and his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona in 1959. Fernando grew up bilingual in Spanish and English and was fluent in Portuguese.
For over 30 years, Fernando worked for the US Social Security Administration (SSA) in a number of assignments throughout Arizona and California. In 1969 he accepted his final role for SSA as District Manager for Southern Arizona in Tucson, in which he served for more than 20 years. Over the span of his career, he worked to improve workplace diversity by actively recruiting minorities and women into SSA and US Civil Service.
Fernando loved to share stories with family and friends about his youth in Benson and his times spent on the family ranch there. Fernando was an avid fan of multiple professional and collegiate teams and sports—especially the UofA Wildcats. But Fernando was an especially proud fan of his children and grandchildren's sports teams and theatrical performances--he even kept two or three lawn chairs and seat cushions in the trunk of his car to make himself comfortable on the sidelines and bleachers!
Fernando is survived by his wife Lucy (Garcia) Mendívil. Also, he is s urvived by his former wife, Florence (Uribe) Lucero, and their children: Pedro "Peter", wife Melissa, daughters Catherine and Rebecca; Samuel "Sam", wife Julie, children Stephanie and Isaiah; Fernando, Jr. "Nando", former wife Felicia and son Nathaniel; and Saralinda "Sinda", husband Juan, children Marina and Ezekiel.
Fernando was preceded in death by three siblings Teresa "Teddy", Miguel "Mike", and Roberto "Robert"; and is survived by his sister, Josefina "Josie". He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Fernando was blessed with a huge, loving, and extended family of relatives and friends.
