Edward "Eddie" Lopez passed away peacefully on Wednesday Nov 27, 2024 at home surrounded by his family after living with Alzheimer's for many years.
Eddie's life will forever be cherished and remembered in the lives of his wife Olivia of 56 years, and children, Lorraine "Lori" Tyler, Patricia "Chickadee" Molina (Jess), Edward "ER" Lopez (Darcy), 10 grand children, and 2 great grandchildren who he loved so dearly. He is survived by his sisters Delia Vidal, Mary Lillian Fuentes, many sister in laws and brother in laws, nieces and nephews.
Edward "Eddie" Lopez was born July 29, 1941 in Tucson, Arizona. He graduated from Tucson High School in 1959 and then joined the United States Air Force where he served for 4 years. When he returned from the service in 1964, he worked for Pima County for a few years while attending the University of Arizona where he studied to be an architect. In 1967, Eddie started working with the United States Post Office where he worked for over 30 years in various roles.
After retiring from the US Postal Service in 1992, Eddie was very proud to have served as the President of the Latin American Social Club for 20 years helping to restore the El Casino Ballroom back to its glory and pillar of the Tucson community. Because of his generous heart, great sense of humor, Eddie made many long lasting friendships and his influence will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Eddie loved to play baseball, softball, and golf. He played in the men's fast-pitch league for the several teams such as the Hawks" in his younger days. He coached many young softball teams for the El Rio Bobby Sox league while his children were playing. He was an avid golfer as well. He organized many softball and golf tournaments for the post office and community to raise funds for many worthy causes.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jesus and Maria Lopez, Brother in Law and Sister Mike and Socorro "Soqui" Borboa, Brother and Sister in Law Jesus "Bebo" and Sylvia Lopez, Brother in Laws Richard Vidal and Henry Fuentes.
The Lopez family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to all the family and friends, doctors, nurses and CNAs that supported them.
Services will be held Thursday December 5, 2024 at St. Margaret's Church 801 N. Grande Ave
Visitation from 9:30 - 10:30 am
Rosary at 10:30 am
Mass at 11 am.
Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, please consider offering a mass with provided envelopes or donating to St. Margaret's Church.
