IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eduardo Aguirre
Lazareno
May 25, 1959 – March 15, 2023
Eduardo Aguirre Lazareno, 63, passed from this earthly life on March 15, 2023, in Tucson AZ. A devoted son, brother and friend to many around the world, Eduardo was truly a global citizen with special "homes" in Mexico City, Denver, CO and Tucson, AZ.
Eduardo was born to Antonio Aguirre and Elvira Lazareno on May 25, 1959, in Mexico City, where he attended grade school and developed a love for soccer on the streets of the city. Over the years, Eduardo, along with his only sibling, Edmee, spent hours with their special church choir, Coro Piedad Vespertino, which became an extended family. Eduardo went to Colegio Amado Nervo and studied Industrial Design at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana - Azcapotzalco.
In 1984 Eduardo joined the international, educational, musical program, Up With People. For nearly twenty years he traveled across the world developing life-long friendships with fellow cast members and host families, many of which consider Eduardo a close friend and member of their family. With his infectious smile and love for everyone he met, Eduardo continued to provide a natural connection for many at Up With People gatherings and reunions.
After a serious injury in 1995, Eduardo didn't slow down his many adventures. While distributing wheelchairs with World Access Project, he was introduced to wheelchair tennis, starting a love for adaptive sports. As a member of the Mexican national team, he won the world wheelchair tennis championship in Poland.
The past six years Eduardo wintered in Tucson working with Southern Arizona Adaptive Sports as the hand cycling coordinator, inspiring many to take up the pursuit he loved so much. He handcycled daily on "The Loop '' alone or with large groups of new and old friends. Another pinnacle moment for Eduardo was winning the hand cycling division of El Tour de Tucson.
Using his storytelling and natural human relationship and technical skills, Eduardo built his own social media business, helping build awareness and meaningful connections for organizations across the country.
Eduardo loved all of God's creation. He loved life, his colleagues, friends and family. And because of that, Eduardo would want you to know that he died from depression. He would want you to honor his memory by asking for help – anywhere – if you or someone you care about is struggling. Eduardo leaves an incredible legacy of love – and if that legacy included saving a life, it would mean the most of all.
Eduardo is survived by his sister, 'Edmee' Rosalina Aguirre Lazareno, Deb Hebblewhite, his ex-wife and good friend, many nephews and nieces, and hundreds of others who consider him a member of their family.
