Loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Edmundo F. Ruiz, passed away on December 4, 2015, peacefully surrounded by family. He was born on December 15, 1938 in Bisbee, AZ to Petra Flores and Ignacio Ruiz. He graduated from Bisbee High School. He served in Student Council, lettered in Football, Basketball and excelled in Track where he set school and state records. As the youngest of a large family, he turned down college scholarships to work and support his mother.
He was Honorably Discharged from the US Army and worked for Phelps Dodge in Bisbee, AZ. He began his career with the Immigration and Naturalization Service as a US Border Patrol Agent in Yuma, AZ in 1968, became a Supervisory Patrol Agent; later advanced to Tucson's Anti-Smuggling Unit; Office of Professional Responsibility; retiring from the Office of the Inspector General in 1990.
In 1991, he began a second career in government as an Adjudicator for those seeking US citizenship. He became a Security Officer at the US Federal Court House later becoming Lead Security Officer for the US Bankruptcy Court House through this October.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 54 years, Alma Martha Torrez Ruiz; son, Edmund (Alyson), granddaughters, Gabrielle, Gracyn and Gillian; daughter, Julia Ruiz Rebert (Treber), granddaughter, Isabel, grandsons, Colton and Zachary; sisters, Idolina Ruiz Gomez, Beatriz Ruiz Romero, brothers Gilbert (Artemisa), David (Arlene) and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. He was an honorable, devoted and devout gentleman.
He was a hunter, avid golfer and loved spending time with his extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Casa De Los Niños or The Humane Society of Southern AZ.
