Obituary

Donald "Donnie" E. Vigil, 74, passed away at home on January 25, 2023, surrounded by family. We take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace.  He was born June 2, 1948, in La Junta, Colorado and came to Tucson, Arizona when he was four.  Donnie was an amazing and loving person with a beautiful and caring soul who left us too soon.  Donnie is preceded in death by his mother, Mary G. Vigil; sister, Nancy A. Juarez; and brother, William "Bill" D. Vigil.

Don is survived by siblings Robert L. (Judy) Vigil, Ben (Linda) Vigil, Marilyn (Fernando) Sanchez, James "Jimmy" (Maria) Vigil, Pauline (Joseph) Gil, and Patricia "Patty" Ahrendt.  He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and Veronica ("Vero") Munoz his Goddaughter.

Donnie was always a hard worker. He drove for a living, first with Holmes Tuttle Ford and then with Tucson's Special Needs Shuttle Service (which later became VanTran). After his retirement, he continued his service to others as a TUSD crossing guard.

Donnie's Catholic faith was extremely important to him and he was an active member of Our Lady Queen of All Saints Church.

Donnie was a very kind and caring person who was loved by his friends and family.  He possessed a larger than life personality, which brought joy to those who knew him. But what warmed Donnie's heart the most was gathering with family members and sharing homemade Mexican food. We love you so much and we will miss your smiling presence, Donnie!

Donnie also loved sports and was the ultimate University of Arizona Wildcat fan. He loved attending Arizona Wildcat baseball games on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, and he would also attend as many basketball and football games as he could. Donnie would often share with the family the conversations he had with Lute & Bobbie Olson while at the basketball games. This was the highlight of his day!

Don also loved to travel.  Prior to his illness, he travelled to San Diego, San Antonio, Denver, Florida and Georgia to visit and spend time with family.

His presence is greatly missed and his warmth and love will never fade from our hearts.  He leaves us his legacy of faith and love extending to all he crossed paths with.
