IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Delfina E.
Quiroz
December 24, 1929 – September 24, 2023
Delfina E. Quiroz, 93, ascended from this life on September 24, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aureliano H. Quiroz, her mother, Maria Lopez Esquer, and her many siblings.
Delfina is survived by her four children Frances Quiroz, Maria Elena Quiroz, Richard Quiroz (Victoria), and Marie-Denise Quiroz; grandchildren Alexia Caviglia, Charles Caviglia, Jr., Kimberly Quiroz, Brandon Quiroz, Emily Quiroz, and Richard Quiroz, Jr.; great-grandchildren Yzabel Caviglia, Quetzal Caviglia, Alexander Nordensson, Rosalind Whitfield, Owen Nordensson; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Born on December 24, 1929, in Guaymas, Sonora, Delfina was a dedicated and doting wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Growing up in Mexico, the youngest daughter in a large extended household helmed by a hard-working single mother, Delfina's formal education was cut short due to family responsibilities and she worked in a shrimp packing factory as a teenager to help her family. At 20, she married her childhood friend and set out with him to begin a new life in the United States. Despite the challenges of navigating a new country, new language and the responsibilities of a young family, shehandled it all with wisdom and aplomb. Even while moving between different cities and homes, Delfina cared for her husband and four children with great love, attentiveness and pride.
As her children grew into adults, Delfina took on new endeavors. Learning to drive for the first time in mid-life, volunteering her time as an election precinct worker and at the Salpointe High School thrift store, and her favorite activity, spending as much time as possible with her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved nothing better than cooking for them, celebrating every holiday, birthday and school program, and especially laughing at their antics.
In the midst of a busy life and multiple health challenges over the last 30 years, Delfina took incredible, disciplined care of herself each and every day, a strict regimen that extended her longevity and our opportunity to enjoy her company. After a battle with COVID-19 early this summer, Delfina's hospitalist was amazed by her ability to recuperate at her age and complimented her diligence and spirit.
Through deep sadness, our family is tremendously grateful for her love, the many lessons she taught us, and the many beautiful memories we have of her. We will forever cherish the time, knowledge and affection of our beloved mother, Nana and Tia.
We are appreciative of, and comforted by, Delfina's peaceful transition to the next world, and the many extended family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers and medical professionals who supported her physical, mental and spiritual needs in recent months.
Our special thanks to the team at Peppi's House Hospice for their thoughtful care, compassion and lessons during her final weeks. As an alternative to flowers, tribute gifts may be made to the American Heart Association.
