IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Caroline
Reed
May 27, 1953 – December 9, 2025
With the deepest sadness we announce the passing of CAROLINE ANNE REED, who graduated with esteemed honors from our presence on December 9, 2025. A service in her memory is scheduled for Saturday February 14, 2026, from 10a-12noon at Carrillo's Tucson Mortuary (Big Chapel).
Caroline is survived by her Le Gran Poohbah (David) and their two adoring dogs Barney and Gracie, her beloved cousin John Reed and newest family member, Dr. Lynette Bassman, Ph.D. Among those grieved most by her passing are close friends too numerous to note, but we take this moment to give thanks for their strength and support as we mark her departure.
To attempt a summary of Caroline's life would be to embark on a saga without end – born in Phoenix, AZ on May 27, 1953 to her parents Hank and Mary Jane, Caroline embarked on a life as minstrel that saw her travel far but always brought her home to the Sonoran Desert - actor, director, writer and producer of award winning productions in both theater and film, Caroline excelled as well as an educator, and was proud of working with local students and fellow artists in exploring playreading, scene work, script analysis, staging and production, technical design, press and promotion, auditions and casting, budgeting and management, vocal dialects and coached movement. Also, winning back-to-back Best awards as Director for Best Plays in the Arizona College Theater Festival (ACTF), and being invited to enter the Library of Congress' newly-created Film Catalog with her digital short film "$3.50 for the 1st Mile" (category winner at the Phoenix Film Festival), and playing Tom Petty's mother in the music video for "Learning To Fly" - she was proud of those accomplishments, too.
Her filmography includes numerous film and television projects alongside Richard Thomas, Glen Close, Lee Remick, Shirley McClain, and Elizabeth Taylor, and as a proud 50-year member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), she was a fierce advocate for her union and her fellow union members. She appeared in numerous local theater productions, including the role of "Sister Woman" in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (AZ Theater Company) and many local community productions, before working with artistic partner Susan Rojas in launching Damesrocket Theater, and expanding into comedy – Tucson Water PSA "The Bathaholic", and Laff's Comedy Club Night of New Comics. Throughout all the travails she was to encounter, her laughter didn't stop for long – because as she would say, "Do you expect me to go through this without drugs AND happiness?"
Donations in Caroline's memory are appreciated for Pima Animal Control, The Humane Society, St. Jude's Children Hospital, and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
