"All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother" - Abraham Lincoln
The same can be said of Carmen. She was a tireless, and selfless mother and wife, who was sure in her identity as such.
Carmen was born and raised in Tucson, and was very proud of her deep Tucson roots, and heritage. She loved her memories of growing up on a ranch with animals and having the opportunity to tag along with her brothers on childhood adventures in their desert playground. She also loved playing with her younger sisters and dressing them as if they were her own dolls.
Losing her father, Ramon, in a 1965 accident was an incredibly hard blow for this self-acknowledged "daddy's girl". Her reunion with him will be one of her sweetest.
She married Robert V. Soto, (Bob), in 1959 at St. Augustine Cathedral.
Together they raised 6 children. They enjoyed living in Tucson, Southern California, Northern Utah, Northern California, and then returned to Tucson upon retirement. Carmen spent the last two years in Southern Utah after Bob's passing, but greatly missed her Tucson.
She took great pleasure in simple things like gardening, baking, cooking, going out dancing with Bob, and running into friends while they were out and about. Going everywhere with Bob on trips across the country, or to the local restaurant was her thing. She was always at his side.
Carmen loved telling stories to her children when they were small, and baking and playing dress-up with her grandchildren whenever she had the chance.
She took her role as wife and mother as her most important. She was always there for her husband. She loved and taught her children, giving them a foundation of faith in God, honesty, hard work, responsibility, and basic human decency.
She left an indelible mark for good in the lives of her descendants that we pray will continue for generations to come.
T his strong, beautiful, vivacious, and very good and faithful lady will be incredibly missed by all of us who have been blessed to know and love her.
