Bertha Salgado Granillo, passed away on June 13th, 2022, she was 91 years old. Bertha was born on September 14, 1930. Bertha is survived by her 4 children and their spouses, 21 grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren and her brother, Guillermo Salgado.
Born to Eleazar and Mercedes Martinez Salgado in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. Moved to Tiger, Arizona at the age of 8 where she spent her school days troubled by the language barrier but completing 8th grade. As a teen, Bertha worked at the local soda fountain, helped her mother feed the miners and tended to the home. For fun, Bertha and her cousin Socorro would intentionally leave one rock in the beans to see which miner would eat it. Bertha then worked for Tucson's Meyerson's The White House Department Store as a sales associate in Tiger. Her paychecks would go to her love for clothing and shoes. At the age of 17, Bertha met Baldomero Granillo. They were married in 1949 with much disprovement from her parents. From 1951 to 1957, their family grew with the addition of 4 children. In 1952, The Granillos resided in Tucson, Arizona until 1959 when the family of 6 moved to San Fernando, California. From 1959-1971, Bertha continued her life in California living and raising her family. The Sylmar earthquake of 1971 promptly moved the Granillos' back to Tucson, Arizona. Bertha enjoyed the company of her family and friends after the death of Baldomero in 1983.
Bertha was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Church in Tucson. Within the Church, Bertha was a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Spanish Mass Choir, Fiesta Committee, Small Faith Community, Operation Hospitality and Marian Guild, all while making lifelong friends. Bertha was an honorary member of the Messengers of Mary of St. Rose of Lima in Safford, Arizona.
Bertha enjoyed traveling, from The Shrine of Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C, to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. Making her way to Las Vegas, Road Trips, the southern part of the country to North Carolina and all the states in between. Always expressing her personal mantra, "On the road again!".
Bertha enjoyed crocheting, gardening, praying and singing and praying and praying… Bertha found enjoyment in her arts and crafts which included piantas, rosaries, paper flowers and flags. Bertha cared for children of both family and friends and had various pets which included dogs, parakeets, chickens, doves and fish.
In the year 2000, Bertha had her home built where she designed both exterior and interior features and spent her days there until 2020 when she then needed caregiving.
Bertha is preceded in death by; her parents; Eleazar and Mercedes, Husband; Baldomero, Her Brothers; Eleazar, Oscar, Robert, and Ralph Salgado, Her sisters; Maria Jesus Castro and Mercedes Quijada and her niece; Sylvia Quijada Bracamonte.
Thank you to the Pima Council on Aging, My House, Rose of Sharon Assisted living, Agape Hospice, Stacy Synder, and the amazing team at the Beehive Homes of Marana. Thank you to the countless family and friends who would keep Bertha company and pray. .
