IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alicia
Flin
September 17, 1932 – February 11, 2025
Alicia Flin was born in Tucson on September 17th 1932 and passed away February 11th 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents Gustavo and Alejandra (Ybarra) Lopez, brothers Robert, Alex and her twin Gustavo Lopez, sisters Connie Ramirez, Hope Jacobs and Gloria Martinez.
She is survived by her sister Olga Pelayo, children daughter Connie (Dennis) Hovenden of La Mirada California and son Richard (Elaine) Flin of Tucson, "adopted" daughter Alice Guzman and "adopted" son Mark Hughes, and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Alicia lived her entire life in Tucson where she worked hard, raised her two children and cared for her Mother at the family home along with a menagerie of pets. She was a loving Friend, Daughter, Tia, Mother and Grandmother to many, fondly known as Nana Cookie or Mamacita.
She loved working at JC Penney's, a career that spanned decades until she retired in 2000. She won many awards for customer service, showcasing her enthusiasm and fun-loving spirit. She loved telling a story about meeting Mr. Penney, and him calling her Cha-Cha for her dancing and silliness.
She was a member of St. Monica's parish where she taught Catechism in the 60's. She loved Elvis Presley and Mexican music and parties and gatherings at the family compound. She was always crocheting baby blankets or an afghan for a friend or co-worker or sewing creative Halloween costumes for work parties, and she didn't meet a baby, dog or cat that she didn't immediately love.
When she was later diagnosed with Dementia / Alzheimer's disease and could no longer live alone she spent her last years at Sherwood Village Memory Care in Tucson. Special thanks to all the amazing Sherwood Village caregivers and staff and Emblem Hospice staff who cared for her and loved her like family. She was their favorite and always told everyone she loved them. Special thanks to her Goddaughter Elsa (Cindy) Martinez and home caregivers Sandy and Barbara for watching out for her while she was still at home.
Remember Alicia with flowers if you choose or a kind gesture, an "I Love You", or a donation to Pima Animal Care Center or the Alzheimer's Association. She was a crazy, fun-loving lady who we will remember with a smile and cherish in our hearts forever.
