Obituary

Alice Anne Kirkey Pawlicki passed away on March 28, 2026, due to a sudden onset of aggressive lymphoma. She had remained very active and engaged in her community until her final weeks, and was surrounded by family and friends.

Alice was born in Galesville, WI on October 31, 1936 to Bertha and Charles Kirkey. She married Frank Dutton and had 5 children; Richard, Victoria, James, Timothy and Michael G. She divorced and remarried the love of her life Anthony Stanley Pawlicki II who also had 5 children; Anthony, Michael A., Nancy, Deborah, and Susan. They later added two more children to their family, Joseph and Sheila. Alice and Tony began raising their blended family in Zion, Illinois and in 1972 moved across country with a van and a 14-man tent, staying at KOA campgrounds and visiting national parks with their children along the way to Tucson, Arizona.

Alice was in the first graduating nursing class at Pima Community College and worked as a nurse in OBGYN, as a floater, and in the medical/surgical units at both UMC and TMC hospitals. Alice was active in her children’s schools and also began volunteering in the community. In 1982 she followed her husband’s career with the Department of State, moving to Brussels, Belgium, Bogota, Colombia, Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and La Paz, Bolivia. She loved to travel and loved learning about other cultures and their people. She visited more than 20 countries all over the world and kept detailed journals and photo albums of all of her adventures.

Alice was exceedingly kind, volunteering and making friendships wherever she went. She was a historian and record keeper, tracing her family’s genealogy back to the 1400’s and learning that she was a Daughter of the American Revolution (DAR). After returning from overseas she worked in medical offices and later in life as a home healthcare nurse for the elderly. She supported the United Way and did a number of walks to raise funds for cancer research. Her volunteer engagements included Honor Flight, Tucson Airport Ambassadors, and the Southern Arizona Visitor’s Center.

Alice kept in touch with friends and family all over the world, writing letters by hand and keeping track of birthdays for 30 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 27 great-great grandchildren. She was loved by all who had the privilege to know her, and was often referred to as an angel on Earth because of her caring nature and extreme kindness.
