Melva C. Basurto (Nina)'s Obituary

Preceded in death by parents, Juan C. Basurto and Antonia C. Basurto; Brother, John F. Basurto, and surviving Brother, Richard Basurto. Nina helped raise Fernando Basurto with her parents Juan and Antonia. Then she helped Fernando and Laura Basurto raise their children Fernando J. Basurto, Michael Basurto, Veronica L. Medina, and Roxanne A. Basurto Orona. She was there to provide love and guidance to the grandchildren of Fernando and Laura Basurto, Miguel A. Basurto, Fernando J. Basurto Jr., Vanessa A. Basurto, Annabelle M. Orona, Alejandro I. Orona, Daniel J. Orona, Victoria G. Media and Joshua A. Medina. Nina touched the lives of all she met. From the earliest childhood memories of Fernando Basurto (Nando), Gilbert Basurto, Silvia Martinez and Norma Marquez. She was always there with a smile or a kind word for us. Nina was that special person that touched all, she never married or had children, but she made up for it with the nephews and nieces of her brothers, John F. Basurto and Richard Basurto. She was always happy to see them. After the death of her parents, she continues with Fernando and Laura Basurto. Nina took the death of her parent's very hard, but as she would tell Fernando, that when he and Laura started to have their family it was a blessing, a new purpose in her life, as she would say. Nina would tell Veronica her birth story and how beautiful she looked at birth. Nina taught the children the Lord's Prayer, she would tell the kids at night to pray for Michael to grow and not be short. She was so happy when Fernando (Nandito) was born. She would say he had rose bud lips. Another time the family took a vacation to Disneyland in California, where she took her first flight, it seemed forever to talk her into flying but there she went with Fernando and Laura's family. She was seated in the middle with Roxanne at the window and Veronica seated along the aisle. On the way back she wanted to look out the window (same seating arrangements), Roxanne did not want to look outside so she closed the window slide Nina never complained or said anything to Roxanne, Veronica told Roxanne and the slide went up. Nina helped raise Fernando and Laura's children. She followed Fernando and Laura to Kingman Az.; she also helped with the grandchildren. Nina was one of a kind; she was seen as a grandmother to the kids. She so loved her family, seeing the birth and childhood and lives of her nephews and nieces and their children. She would say I never had any children but I was blessed with my family. Nina will be missed and always be in the hearts and minds of those she met and touched.
